Tree Service FAQs
Answers to what Asheville homeowners ask us most. Anything else, just call.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We come out, look at the trees and give you a written estimate with no obligation.
How soon can you come out?
For estimates, usually within a few days. For emergencies like a tree on a house or blocking a driveway, call 828-367-9685 any time and we get a crew moving right away.
Do I need to be home for the estimate?
Not always. If we can reach the trees and you tell us which ones, we can look and send you the estimate. For removals near the house, it helps to walk the job together.
Can you price a job from photos?
For simple jobs like stump grinding or small trimming, often yes. The estimate form lets you add photos and a short video, which helps us plan any job.
How long does tree removal take?
Most single-tree removals are done in a day. Large trees, tight access or multiple trees can take longer, and we’ll give you a timeline with your estimate.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Asheville Tree Service Pros is fully insured for your protection and peace of mind. We’re happy to send proof of insurance before any work starts.
Why does insurance matter for tree work?
Tree work is dangerous. If an uninsured crew damages your house or someone is hurt on your property, you can end up paying. Always ask any tree company for proof of insurance.
Can you remove a tree near power lines?
We work around service lines to homes. Main lines on the poles must be made safe by the utility first. If a tree is on a line, stay back and call 911 or the power company.
Will you damage my lawn or driveway?
We protect lawns, decks and driveways, and lower heavy pieces on ropes instead of dropping them near anything that matters.
What tree services do you provide?
Tree removal, trimming and pruning, 24/7 emergency and storm work, stump grinding, lot clearing and tree health assessments.
How do I know if a tree needs to come down?
Warning signs include a new or worsening lean, cracks in the trunk, mushrooms or soft wood at the base, large dead limbs and roots lifting after a storm. If you are not sure, book a tree health assessment.
Do you top trees?
No. Topping weakens trees and causes rot and weak regrowth. We reduce height and weight with proper pruning cuts instead.
When is the best time to trim trees?
Late fall through winter is best for most trees, but deadwood and hazard limbs can be removed any time.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
Most residential lots inside Asheville do not need a permit. The City of Asheville has special rules for businesses, steep slope areas and historic districts such as Montford, and HOAs often have their own. See our guide: do you need a permit to remove a tree in Asheville?
Will you clean up after the job?
Always. We haul away branches and wood, rake up debris and leave your yard clean unless you’d like to keep the firewood.
Can I keep the wood?
Yes. We can cut it to firewood length and stack it where you want, or haul it all away.
Is stump grinding included with removal?
It is priced separately so you can choose, and it is cheaper when done the same day as the removal.
How deep do you grind stumps?
Below grade, typically 6 to 12 inches, deep enough to seed grass. We can go deeper if you plan to plant or build in the same spot.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency tree service?
Yes. Call 828-367-9685 any time, day or night, for trees on houses, cars, driveways and roads.
Does insurance cover tree removal after a storm?
Often, when a tree damages a covered structure. Take photos before anything is moved and call your insurer. We provide a detailed invoice for your claim.
What areas do you serve?
Asheville and the surrounding mountains: East and West Asheville, Black Mountain, Swannanoa, Fairview, Weaverville, Arden, Candler and Leicester. Not sure if we cover your area? Give us a call.
