Crown thinning
Selected branches removed throughout the canopy to let light and wind through. The tree keeps its natural shape and carries less weight in storms.
Check your tree’s health
Structural pruning and canopy thinning that keeps your trees healthy, safe and clear of your roof. No topping, ever.
Good pruning is about the tree’s long-term health, not just how it looks next week. We remove dead and weak limbs, thin crowded canopies, cut back branches over the house and correct poor structure while the tree is young enough to respond.
Every cut is made at the right spot, just outside the branch collar, so the tree seals the wound and stays strong. Before we start, we walk you through exactly what we plan to take and why. Then we chip the brush and leave the yard clean.

Most jobs combine two or three of these. We will recommend what your trees actually need.

Check your tree’s health
Limbs cut back from your roof, gutters, chimney and service lines, so leaves, moss and storm damage stay off the house.
Storm damage already?
Dead, broken and hanging limbs taken out before they fall on people, cars or the house. A must for big shade trees.
Is the whole tree dead?
Low limbs removed so you can walk, mow and park under the tree, see the house from the street and get trucks up the driveway.
Clearing a driveway corridor?Asheville’s ice storms, summer thunderstorms and remnants of hurricanes put big loads on trees. Pruned trees handle them better.
Thinned canopies let wind pass through, and removing weak, crossing and dead limbs takes away the parts most likely to fail.
Removing diseased and rubbing branches and letting light into the canopy keeps the tree growing strong for decades.
Limbs cut back from the roof mean less debris in gutters, less moss and shade on shingles, and fewer squirrels on the roof.

"After a big storm took down a 60-foot oak right next to our house, I was panicking. These guys were out the same evening, had it safely removed by the next morning, and left the yard spotless."
"We had three huge trees removed from our backyard, one right over the deck. I was nervous about damage, but the crew was meticulous. They used ropes and rigging and not a single branch touched anything."
"They trimmed all eight of our mature maples and did an outstanding job shaping them. The arborist explained everything beforehand and clearly cared about the health of the trees, not just getting done fast."
Late fall through winter is ideal for most trees: the leaves are off, the structure is easy to see and pests are dormant. Deadwood, hazard limbs and roof clearance can be done any time of year.
No. Topping cuts large limbs back to stubs, which weakens the tree, causes rot and grows back as weak, crowded sprouts. We reduce height and weight the right way, by cutting back to healthy side branches.
As a rule, no more than about a quarter of the living canopy in a single season. Taking more stresses the tree. We will plan larger reductions over two or more visits if needed.
Most mature shade trees do well with a check and light pruning every 3 to 5 years. Young trees benefit from structural pruning more often, and trees over the house should be looked at every year or two.
